Discovering future talent: RCR’s commitment to education and career development

At RCR, we believe in fostering the next generation of skilled professionals by engaging with the local community through expos and school tours. By opening our doors to students, we aim to inspire and educate young minds about the exciting opportunities in the manufacturing industry.

School tours: a peek behind the scenes

Our school tours are a comprehensive experience where students are given a presentation by our dedicated engineering team, followed by a guided tour of our state-of-the-art facility. These tours are designed to provide students with an inside look at what it takes to work in our industry, from the daily operations to the innovative projects we undertake.

During these visits, our recruitment team outlines the various pathways available through our school-based work experience programs. Students have the flexibility to participate in these programs in a way that suits their schedules, whether it’s a full week block or one day per week as part of their Vocational Education and Training (VET) programs. We emphasise that these opportunities should be approached with the same seriousness as a job interview, preparing students for future professional environments.

Apprenticeships: a gateway to a promising career

One of our key initiatives is to offer apprenticeships to high-performing students. This strategy allows us to identify and nurture talent early, providing students with a clear understanding of what an apprenticeship entails. We typically advertise apprenticeship opportunities on Seek, with intakes in January and mid-year, offering a structured entry into the industry.

To enhance the learning experience, we provide diverse opportunities to our apprentices. Currently, five of our RCR apprentices are working on a project with OFI, gaining valuable exposure to site work and different clients. This hands-on experience is crucial in developing well-rounded professionals.

Empowering women in manufacturing

We are particularly excited about our upcoming initiative, the first-ever female career taster event at RCR. This event, organised in collaboration with the local TAFE, extends an invitation to young women in Years 10, 11, and 12 from local schools. Participants will spend a few hours at RCR, receiving a presentation from our female engineers and project managers. Our safety team will lead them on a tour of the facility, where they will engage in practical activities like completing Take 5 safety checks and an Incident-Free Environment (IFE) exercise.

Additionally, our recruitment team will discuss work placement opportunities and conduct mock interviews, equipping these young women with the skills and confidence needed to pursue careers in engineering and manufacturing.
